Advice on imaginary accident, UK

Last week my husband was in a minor incident with another motorist who is now threatening to proceed with an insurance claim. My husband and the other motorist were passing on a tight street as cars were parked down one side. As they passed the other driver stopped and had a go at my husband saying that he should have reversed or waited for him to pass first. The cars did not collide and the most contact there was, was that the wing mirrors touched. I was sat in the back of the car and did not even realise any contact was made! There are no markings on my husband’s car/wing mirror and there cannot be any markings on the other car/wing mirror. Can the other motorist really make a claim against my husband? I cannot imagine there is any evidence that the cars even made contact.

I take it that your husband gave his insurance details as well as his personal information (driving licence, tel etc) to the other motorist, right? Are there any marks or scratches on your car's wing mirror? How about the mirror of the other motorist? The reason I ask is that if there are no evidence of damage, then there's no grounds to make a claim to the insurance company.

Thanks for your reply. No, my husband didn't swap any details with the driver but found a note through our door (the incident happened on our estate). The other motorist has not given his name or details in the note, it is just a threatening note saying to expect a letter from his insurance company. There are no scratches or marks on our wing mirror so I am glad about your last comment as I thought the same.

Thanks again :)
