Can I get my licence early because I'm depressed without it?

I was caught drink driving and I am banned for a year. The last few years I have suffered from depression and now I am banned I am struggling to get out and feel very isolated as the nearest public transport is 30 mins away and I'm becoming more depressed and unable to find a job as I have relied on my car for the last 6 years. Do you think I would be able to get it reduced at all for medical reasons or be able to appeal to go and do a rehabilitation course?

Jenna,

For driving disqualifications less than 2 years, you will have to complete the whole ban as you cannot request your licence early. If you driving ban was more than 2 years, then you would be able to appeal after a set period of time but in your case, there're nothing you can do I'm afraid. The drink driving rehab course is suggested at the time of sentencing if the court thinks that this can be of any help to you. Had this been recommended to you when you were sentenced and you agreed to get enrolled on it and completed the course, then you would be able to get your licence after 9 months instead of 12. The problem is you were not offered this course and this is at the discretion of the court to recommend it to a drink driver. You also cannot get enrolled on this course any other way but through recommendation from the court and this is done at the time of sentencing and not afterwards.
