Cheap temporary insurance for learner drivers

Collingwood Learner Driver Insurance

Hi,

I have recently been looking for temporary cover for my parents car but as a learner (and an 18 yr old one at that) I have found the choice extremely limited. I need 3 months cover before I leave for uni, and am due to take my practical test at the end of this month, which is mainly why I need the cover. The only sites which I have found are Collingswood Insurance (known as Learner-Driver-Insurance) and Provisional marmalade, which:

a)charge £96.50 for 28 days cover and
b)Don't appear to have the option of also insuring my parents

If anyone knows of a less expensive alternative please let me know - else I'm assuming that the lack of competition must be why it is so expensive.

Thank you - Katherine

Katherine,

There is only one company at the moment which will provide car insurance for a learner driver and it is Collingwood. When you go to the Provisional Marmalade website, it will redirect you to Collingwood's site. As you probably know, insurance cover for learners is a risky business and therefore not many companies are willing to take the risk.

Your parents are probably already insured on their car, otherwise they would not be able to drive it. This means that you need to just find insurance cover for yourself and Collingwood Learner Driver Insurance can give you just that so that you can practice in your parents car. The good thing about this type of insurance is that should you have any incidents while driving, you will be able to claim under your own policy and your parents no claims bonus would not be affected at all.
