Does only the main driver get no claims bonus?

If you are the proposer of the car but you put down someone else as a main driver, who will get the no claims discount?

Keely,

Normally on the application form for a car insurance quote, the proposer is the main driver. Other drivers are then added to the policy as additional drivers. Anyway the no claims discount always goes to the main driver and the other drivers earn nothing unless they take out an insurance policy in their own name.

However there are a handful of insurance companies which give a certain bonus to named drivers if there have been no claims on their part but you are not able to carry forward this bonus to a different company as it is only applicable with the same company when you take out a policy of your own.
