Driving Without MOT and Insurance

I have just been to the garage and the mechanic said that my car did not pass the MOT. I'm very upset as the exhaust pipe needs changing and that's going to cost me some serious money.

I've decided not to renew my car insurance until I've sorted out the MOT. Am I going to be in deep trouble if I get caught?

Driving without MOT and insurance is not very clever. Although it may seem like a lot of money to pay for the repairs to your vehicle, it is for your own safety first of all and to others as well and should you be caught driving without a valid MOT certificate, any insurance cover you may have will be invalidated as a result and you will not be able to make any claims if you have been involved in an accident.

You will therefore be charged with driving without mot (which carries a maximum fine of £1000) and also driving without valid insurance (6-8 points on your licence + maximum fine of £5000).
