Insurance for driving sister's car

Hiya.

I am 17 years old and have just passed my test. I am going to be using my sister's car as she will not need it as much anymore. Is it illegal for me to get my own insurance policy out on her car if she already has one on it? If so, would I just need to be added as a named driver then?

Emily,

The insurance that your sister has on her car is for her to drive it. Anyone else who wants to use the car must either be added to the insurance policy or buy a new one. So if you want to start driving your sister's car, you will need to either become a named driver on the existing car insurance policy or get insurance cover which entitles you to drive her car.
