Insurer won't pay out - car hit overnight by someone skidding into it in the snow

Insurer won't pay out for non fault accident, my car was hit overnight by someone skidding into it in the snow. Car insurance company say they won't pay out because I didn't tell them about a previous claim which was not my fault, which happened 4yrs ago.

Insurers usually want you to disclose claims/convictions within the last 5 years. How did they find out about your accident? Did the other party filed a claim with their insurer?
