Jump start car with a different make

Can I jump start a BMW 120i from a Mercedes diesal 3 litre car?

Geoff,

That shouldn't be a problem. When you're jump-starting a car, you are basically reviving a dead battery on a car. Even though car make and power can be different, the battery is standard 12 Volts. This is the reason why you can stop any car passing by to help you if you've got battery problems with your car.
