Learner driver third party fire and theft insurance

Hi

Have had few driving lessons but I have my own car that I go out in most nights to get practice doing wheel. I find my own car easier to use than the instructor's. Does 3rd party fire and theft insurance that I have cover me for using my own car with my instructor once a week?

Kerry,

Assuming you have just a provisional driving licence at the moment (because some people take driving lessons as they didn't drive for a long time after passing their practical test), then you must have told the insurance company with which you have third party fire and theft cover that your licence is just provisional. This will mean that the insurance company knows that you will be getting driving practice in your car.

You need to check your insurance policy to see what has been stated on there - if you see that your licence type is listed as provisional and not full UK driving licence, then you are insured when learning with your driving instructor. If in doubt, then you can always call the insurer to ask.
