Named Driver for 6 years - Will I get any no claims bonus?

I am 25 years old. I have held a full licence for 6 years and have also been a named driver on a number of vehicles for 6 years. Will this contribute to my no claims bonous if i take out my own policy? Regards Patrick

Patrick,

Usually named drivers are not entitled to any no claims discount as it goes only to the policyholder. However with some companies like Direct Line, you are able to get some no claims bonus if you had a policy with them as a named driver before and now want to take out your own car insurance policy. You should check whether your current insurer allow you to earn no claims bonus as a named driver. If they don't, then you would start with zero no claims when you get your own policy and build it up with every subsequent year that you are claims-free. However bear in mind that because you've had several insurers before, you can only check with your current one because named drivers no claims discount are not transferrable from one insurance company to another.
