No claims bonuses for a named driver

I have been driving for 20 plus years but have never had my own insurance, always as named driver. How can I get insurance in my own name now without paying huge amounts of money so my son and I can share a car, he has just passed his test but I would be the main driver

Sue,

As you probably know, you don't get no claims bonus when you are listed as a named driver on a car insurance policy. So for the 20+ years that you've been driving, it will not make make any difference when it comes to no claims bonus. However some companies will consider the fact that you have been driving for a long period of time and if your driving history is good, they will give you discounts accordingly.

Therefore you will need to shop around and possibly call some insurers to discuss your situation for the best deals.
