No licence but received 3 year ban for dangerous driving

Hi

A friend of mine has never had a licence but received a driving ban for 3 years for dangerous driving. The ban is almost up and he is looking to apply for his first licence so he can train and pass an extended driving test. Also would the points/endorsement be recorded on his licence. He has never had a licence before and wants to try and get it right this time. Many thanks Martin Barrett

You would normally do the normal driving test unless the court has ordered an extended driving test is done after the ban is up. After applying for a provisional licence, the theory test needs to be passed along with the hazard perception which will then lead to the actual driving test. The extended test is longer than the standard test that learners do but if you're a good driver, it shouldn't be difficult to pass.

For dangerous driving offences, the points will stay on his licence for 4 years from the date of conviction. After that period of time has elapsed, you can request for the endorsements to be removed by contacting the DVLA.

I had a ban before I passed my test, the endorsement was still on my new license, if it was a ban for drink driving it'll stay on for 11 years.
