Smell of burning from clutch

I have just bought a 58 plate peugeot 207 with 3000 miles on the clock. When I hold the car on a steep hill using the cluth it smells of burning for quite a time afterwards. Does this mean the clutch is slipping? I have never had this problem in the past on the same stretch of road with my old cars.

Gordon,

It is difficult to tell without being there and having a look. If you have the service history of the car, then this may help in identifying previous problems with the car although I doubt there would be anything there as your car is very new.

If you're worried about it, then you need to get it checked by a mechanic for peace of mind.
