Temporary car insurance in the UK for visitors

I have the use of my friend's car while in the UK for 1 month and need to find temporary car insurance. I hold an international license and a full US driving license.

With a US driving licence, you will find it hard to get temporary car insurance I'm afraid. Actually there's no insurers at the moment which will insure you at all. The international driving licence does not make a difference unless you're taking an annual car insurance policy.

Will your car insurance company in the US not extend its cover to the UK? It might be worth looking into that because here in the UK, you will not be able to drive unless you're insured to do so and you won't get cover with your current american licence.

I have the same problem. My father is visiting from Canada and I have an uninsured spare car that he can use but I am having a difficult time insuring him on it. I can get 2 week insurance for myself but not him. The only option is for your friend to add you onto his regular/annual car and then insure the other car for a month and use the other car?
