Will I lose no claims bonus if I become a named driver

I have accumulated over 9 years no claims bonus. I am now wanting to share a car insurance policy with someone who has over 10 years no claims bonus.

With one of us having to become the named driver and not the policy holder, will that person's no claims bonus be lost?

Lynette,

This depends from insurer to insurer. Some insurers will not count your NCB if you haven't driven for a period of 3 months to 2 years. In your situation however, you are going to be a named driver and will therefore still be driving, and they could let you keep up your no claims bonus but then again you will have to speak to them before taking out the policy. Unfortunately, there are no set industry standards for this and you can only find out for yourself by contacting the insurance company you are looking to go with.
